Transmission Gully All Go

Transmission Gully All Go

News today that Transmission Gully Highway (TGH) is now a certainty after the signing of the contract between Wellington Gateway Partnership and the Transport Agency is fantastic, says Porirua City Council.

"We’ve been waiting a long time for this day,” says Porirua Deputy Mayor ‘Ana Coffey.

“The Porirua community has been unwavering in its support for Transmission Gully and it’s very exciting to finally know that TGH is now an absolute certainty. This road is crucial – not just locally – but as a regional roading network that will provide greater route security and ease congestion for everyone in the Wellington region.”

She says TGH will provide a crucial part of an efficient network linking Wellington airport to Levin and on to the rest of the North Island.

“TGH will be the long term sustainable solution for State Highway One for the whole country while providing better community and environmental outcomes for Porirua. Once the four-lane highway is built, the existing state highway corridor that passes through Porirua City will become a safer local road.”

Porirua City Council Chief Executive Gary Simpson says the project is one of the biggest contracts ever to have been let in the region and work is expected to start soon.

“We welcome the Wellington Gateway Partnership and look forward to the economic and employment opportunities the project will bring locally. We expect that disruptions to residents will be well managed and kept to a minimum during construction works.”
