Wellington – the region of Sexy Zen Drivers

There’s a new way of driving in Wellington – the Sexy Zen way. And you can learn how in three short videos.

The videos have been produced by Greater Wellington Regional Council as a novel way of encouraging motorists to slow down.

“Sexy Zen Driving is all about easing your foot off the accelerator and enjoying the ride,” says Simon Kennett, the Regional Council’s Road Safety Coordinator.

The three-part series follows the journey of three aggressive motorists who learn to become more relaxed and considerate behind the wheel.

“Aimed at young drivers, the videos are a humorous way of getting across some very serious messages. It’s a very different approach from most other road safety videos and we hope it will resonate with young people.

“Wellington has the highest proportion of pedestrians and cyclists in the country which is fantastic. But because there are so many people out and about on the streets, quite a high number get hit by cars. The chances of someone surviving being hit by a car travelling at 30kms per hour is several times higher than someone who’s hit by a car travelling at 50kms per hour.

“The more sexy zen drivers there are in Wellington, the better for us all.”
