Campgrounds lease signed

Campgrounds lease signed

Queenstown Lakes District Council has negotiated an agreement with campground operators CCR Ltd to lease five of its campgrounds and holiday parks for 25 years.

CCR is already managing most of the Council’s major campgrounds under a three-year agreement signed last November. At the time, the Council signalled that this would be an interim step and it resolved in April to consult the public about its intention to negotiate a long-term lease arrangement.

Chief Executive Adam Feeley said that a long-term lease was always the preferred option because it provided more certainty about income for the Council and was an incentive for the campground managers to invest in improved facilities.

“While campgrounds are an important part of the accommodation mix for visitors to the District, the Council resolved last year that we were not best-placed to operate them. This agreement means that the campgrounds will be run by a reputable and experienced operator, while still enabling the Council to ensure that appropriate quality standards are enforced.”

The agreement covers the Queenstown Lakeview Holiday Park; Arrowtown Born of Gold Holiday Park; Wanaka Lakeview Holiday Park; Albert Town Campground and Glendhu Bay Lakeside Holiday Park. The Frankton Motor Camp is not included.
