Body of missing Pipriki man located
"Body of missing man located"
The body of missing Pipiriki man Hotene Koia was located this afternoon by a search and rescue team in the Whanganui River.
Police staff along with LandSAR volunteers and Department of Conservation staff launched a ground and marine search this morning in the wider Pipiriki area.
A search team located Mr Koia and his vehicle in the river at about 1:30pm.
Initial indications suggest Mr Koia’s vehicle has left the road and crashed down a bank before landing in the river.
His body and the vehicle have now been recovered and his next of kin has been advised.
A kaumatua performed a blessing and karakia at the scene.
Whanganui Police are investigating the crash assisted by the Serious Crash Unit.
The death has now been referred to the Coroner.
