Police Officers assaulted - Christchurch

Police Officers assaulted - Christchurch

At about 9pm this evening two Christchurch Police Officers have been assaulted and suffered head injuries while they were arresting a suspect involved in a Domestic Violence incident.

The arrest was being made at the Palms Shopping Centre Car park as a result of the suspect fleeing the North New Brighton address where the domestic incident had occurred.

The victim of the domestic incident was not injured.

The two officers are being treated by medical staff however it is not believed that they will require ongoing medical assistance.

A 29 year old male has been charged with a number of charges relating to the domestic incident as well as a charge relating to injuring the officers. Roy Appley Senior Sergeant Canterbury District Command Centre.
