Public meeting regarding the Johnsonville Mall
Public meeting regarding the Johnsonville Mall
“There is a considerable degree of frustration with the lack of progress and development at the Johnsonville Mall, and we are holding a public meeting to give residents the opportunity to have their say,” Ōhāriu candidate Greg O’Connor said today.
“I have been speaking with residents, shoppers and mall tenants from across the electorate, and they’ve told me that the mall is too important a resource for the residents of Johnsonville and surrounding suburbs to be allowed to continue to deteriorate, and for important tenants catering to the needs of the population to be lost,” Mr O’Connor said. “Currently residents are travelling out of the area to shop, at greater cost and inconvenience. They want a shopping centre they can be proud of in the heart of our local community.”
“Obviously Stride Investment Management, the mall owners, are the key decision-makers, but there is a belief that reassurances given by them in the past have not materialised and no progress will be made without outside pressure,” Mr O’Connor went on to say.
“Holding a public meeting on this issue, a meeting to which Stride are invited, and at which Mayor Justin Lester will speak on behalf of the Council, will give concerned residents the chance to be fully briefed on the Mall and the owners an idea of the kind of Shopping Centre locals want, one they can be proud of.”
The meeting will
be held in the Main Hall at the Johnsonville Community
Centre on Moorefield Road at 7.30pm on Wednesday 24th May,
and everyone is welcome.
