Road Open/Closure Update - Plan Your Travel

Please find to follow an update to help you plan your travel. As the area is still fragile, please checkwww.nzta.govt.nz/traffic or call 0800 4 HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49) for real time information before you travel as the following could change.

Important: Both SH1 South of Kaikoura between Peketa and Goose Bay, and the Inland Route 70 will be CLOSED again overnight from 6pm. We appreciate your patience and support while our crews continue to inspect these routes and carry out any remediation to get them fully operational again.

SH1 SOUTH OF KAIKOURA BETWEEN PEKETA AND GOOSE BAY - OPEN UNTIL NOON TODAY, THEN CLOSED

As advised yesterday, SH1 South of Kaikoura is currently OPEN for travel this morning and will CLOSE at 12noon (when the Inland Route 70 is scheduled to reopen). It will REOPEN for the scheduled local drive-through at 6pm before CLOSING again overnight.

This area is still fragile so expect delays, allow extra time and if at all possible please consider delaying your travel.

INLAND ROUTE 70 – NORTH OF MT LYFORD TO KAIKOURA – CLOSED, SCHEDULED TO REOPEN AT NOON

Currently CLOSED this morning while the crews continue working to get this route safe and serviceable after yesterday’s flooding. This is scheduled to REOPEN at noon today.

Important: this area is still fragile with inspections ongoing. It will need to CLOSE again at 6pm tonight.Tomorrow morning (Thursday) inspections will be carried out first thing with an aim to REOPEN at 7am.
