App to make parking payments easier

App to make parking payments easier

Dunedin (Monday, 12 February 2018) – Dunedin residents can now pay for parking remotely using their smart phones.

Parking Operations Team Leader, Reece Smith, says people can now pay for parking through the Pay My Park app at approximately 1100 pay and display car parks, including DCC off-street car parks that have pay and display machines.

“The app offers more flexibility and people only pay for the parking time they use. The app has an alert when parking is due to expire and it can be extended remotely. There’s no need to put a ticket on your dashboard.”

The app integrates with software used by parking officers, so by entering a number plate into their handheld unit they can check parking payment. Introduction of the app has no additional cost for ratepayers as it is part of the software package already used by parking officers.

“The app is available on Android and iOS phones. People need to register their vehicles on the app and to pay for parking they’ll need to know the number of the meter they’ve parked closest to.”

Credit can be loaded using internet banking or credit cards. There is a fee to add credit to the app, this is set and collected by the app provider, not the DCC.

Six other New Zealand councils already use this app, including Wellington City Council and Hamilton City Council.
