"Rainbow Pride car to feature in Wellington’s Pride Parade"

The New Zealand Police Rainbow Pride car will be featuring in Wellington Pride Festival’s Pride Parade tomorrow night.

The car has been created to acknowledge the important relationship between Police and New Zealand’s Rainbow community and to celebrate diversity.

The car made its first public appearance in the Capital at “Out in the Park” at Waitangi Park last month and featured in the Pride Parade in Ponsonby on the 17th of February.

Around 30 Police staff will be marching alongside the car including Wellington Area Commander Inspector Chris Bensemann, Kapiti Mana Area Commander Tracey Thompson and National Manager of Police Professional Conduct Superintendent Anna Jackson.

Inspector Chris Bensemann says he is really looking forward to the parade.

“The car was a hit at Out in the Park so it’s great to have it back on the streets of Wellington.”

“The weather forecast looks promising as well and I’d really encourage everyone to come out and support the parade.”

“Valuing diversity is one of our core values and as an organisation we work to support and celebrate our employees from all backgrounds.” he says.

The parade starts at 7pm on Tennyson Street and will make its way to the waterfront via Cambridge Terrace, Courtenay Place and Taranaki Street.

For those after a photo opportunity with the car it will also be at the Open Day at the Royal New Zealand Police College in Porirua on Sunday.
