Excio Commemorates WWI Soldiers with ANZAC Day Collections
Excio has launched some special ANZAC Day collections on their visual app to commemorate New Zealand's WWI soldiers.
The collections contain archive photographs from Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa by soldier/photographer Herbert Green during his time in France, South Africa, England, and beyond. As well as portraits and candid shots of soldiers Herbert captured moments from everyday civilian life too. The collections also feature portraits of New Zealand's very own Berry Boys. These photographs allow users to look into the men's eyes as they learn more about them and ponder what must have been going through their minds as they headed off to war. Finally, an array of vintage posters can also be enjoyed as well as other archival photographs from this period.
"People organise events and wear red poppies to commemorate ANZAC day and we felt that Excio should participate too. To follow a collection on Excio and see great images on your screen is one thing, but seeing photographs of people who sacrificed their lives is something very special. We encourage our users wherever they are - if they commemorate ANZAC Day - to turn their screen into a display of New Zealand history, bravery, and courage, at least for a few days. The history of war is always woven with individual souls and our collection showing the Berry Boys brings these individuals’ stories to light,” says Ana Lyubich, CEO of Excio.

Excio has already partnered with Te Papa and Wellington City Archives to bring historical NZ photos to life and is working with other institutions to add more images and stories to the platform.
