Watercare announces new water outages map
Auckland residents can now find out if there are water problems in their area with a simple click on a new digital map.
The interactive map was developed alongside Watercare’s new website, which was launched in November last year. Planned or unexpected shutdowns are indicated with a bold symbol, with location details and information about when water is likely to be restored.
Residents can also click on a particular suburb to see if there are any works or incidents in that area.
Watercare information delivery services manager, Marc Touchette, says the new map has been specifically designed to be as clear and user-friendly as possible: “We recognise that our customers lead busy lives, so we wanted to make sure that information was accessible at a glance. We also wanted to ensure the digital map worked well on mobile devices.”
Watercare’s website has seen other improvements too—reporting a fault has also become a lot easier. Customers no longer have to call or email or text if they spot a problem. Now they can report a fault via a simple and accessible online form.
Applying for new water/wastewater connections or ‘works-over approval’ has changed too. Now this can be done on-line as opposed to printing off and completing forms. Since its launch on 27 March, 25 per cent of all applications have used the new service.
