New Newtown Community & Cultural Centre Board Member

Press Release: New Newtown Community & Cultural Centre Board Member

11 June 2018

The Newtown Community & Cultural Centre (NCCC) is proud to announce the appointment of a new board member, Ken Allen.

As of 9 April 2018, Ken Allen has joined the NCCC team of volunteer board members who pull the strings from behind the scenes to ensure that our strategic direction is bang on and our financials are in the black. Allen replaces Toni Carson who left some months ago, and the Board have been biding their time in order to find the perfect replacement.

The NCCC is a community organisation that manages a number of community spaces across three locations in Newtown. These include the Newtown Community & Cultural Centre on the corner Rintoul & Colombo Streets, Newtown Hall on Daniell Street & Network Newtown at 9-11 Constable Street. In addition to space hire we run a number of projects and programmes aimed at benefiting the community. Some of these include the Wellington Timebank, Newtown Youth Programme, Smart Newtown, $2 exercise classes and more.

Ken joins the team at the NCCC after many years of governance experience with community organisations in Newtown and beyond - including the Newtown Ethical Lending Trust and Kaibosh Food Rescue. Ken says, “Newtown is a thriving and diverse community. The work of the NCCC staff plays an important role in connecting our people and I am delighted to be able to offer my skills to the NCCC Trust Board and support them”

The NCCC Trust is looking for one more skilled person to join the Board of Trustees. The Board meets once every two months for an hour and there are occasionally extra meetings to attend. They are looking to mix up the gender, ethnicity and age of the team. They are looking for someone who is passionate about Newtown and its’ peoples and potentially someone who has finance and chair skills. If you’d like to join a fun, efficient team dedicated to supporting the community, get in touch!
