New Auckland Police Hub announced

Police Commissioner Mike Bush has today confirmed the Hub for delivering Auckland policing services is to move from its current location (corner of Vincent and Cook Streets) to a new central Auckland property.

“I am delighted to confirm the lease signing that will enable the move to a more modern, fit-for-purpose Auckland Central Police Hub,” says Mr Bush.

“This will mean improved working conditions for staff, better operational functionality, and enable more responsive policing services to the public.”

New Zealand Police, with the building owner plan to redevelop and fit-out the property at 13-15 College Hill, Auckland City, to operate as the new Auckland District Headquarters and Auckland Central Area Police Hub.

“The new location was part of an extensive property search to improve Police’s current facilities and workspace, while ensuring continued service delivery and value for money.
It is a key project in Police’s longer term property strategy.”

“Police are committed to maintaining a substantial presence within Auckland City and enabling our staff to deploy and deliver policing services into the future within this rapidly growing city and surrounding communities,” says Mr Bush.

Auckland City District Commander Karyn Malthus also welcomes confirmation of the new property for Auckland Police.

“The new property location has good access to transport links and arterial routes within the CBD and across Tāmaki Makaurau, which is important for ensuring we are able to deliver world class policing services to the public,” she says.

“The building will be upgraded with a new fit out to accommodate the growth in staffing numbers over the coming years.
It will house nearly 400 staff and includes more than 150 carparks, with additional public parking nearby.

“As the new Police hub is very close to Ponsonby Station, we intend to relocate Ponsonby staff between the new College Hill site and Avondale station and will find an additional facility in the Auckland CBD to ensure a continued police presence in the central city area.
I am confident this will improve community access to police.”

Police are expecting to occupy the new facility from mid-2019, and will soon undertake a feasibility and options study to consider the long term options for the existing properties.
