Police received reports of a shooting this morning on Waimate Street in Otara at about 10.35am
Police and emergency services have cordoned the scene.
A man has suffered a serious injury to his stomach and has been taken to hospital, however injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The offender is thought to be known to the victim in this instance and Police are making enquiries to locate the offender.
Police will continue to make enquiries in relation to this today, so members of the public are asked to avoid the area if possible.
