Residents encouraged to embrace trials

Wānaka residents are invited to join in and embrace activation trials happening in the Wānaka Town Centre this weekend.

QLDC Deputy Mayor Calum Macleod hopes the weather plays ball and is looking forward to seeing locals enjoying the temporary public space on the lakefront, taking advantage of the activities on offer over the four day trial.

“We’ll have heaps of activities going on to bring this space to life like dodgeball, street art and acoustic performers. So there’s plenty of fun to be had, all while trying out how it feels to remove cars from a small portion of the town centre, better connect the lakefront to town and sharing ideas for the future,” he said.

“This is an honest attempt to involve as many parts of our wonderful community as we possibly can and engage on a range of options for our future. We need to hear from the silent majority as well as the vocal minority. Please drop by and get involved.” Mr Macleod said.

The temporary public space will also feature a community information tent where Wānaka Masterplan information panels will be on display for feedback.

“A range of concepts has been prepared as a result of the early insights feedback the community provided in September last year. We’re keen to share and test these with the community before any options are taken any further,” Mr Macleod said.

“We invite you all to drop down to the tent, check out where the Masterplan journey is going so far and provide your feedback and direction for where it should head next,” he said.

All of the information would also be available at letstalk.qldc.govt.nz from 15 March 2019 with feedback closing on 31 March 2019.
