Police can confirm a 70-year-old man has died following a crash on the Tekapo-Twizel Rd, Pukaki, Mackenzie Country.

Emergency services were called to the crash at about 7:30am this morning.

Eight people were involved in the crash.

Six people are seriously injured and have been taken to Timaru, Dunedin and Christchurch hospitals.

One person was uninjured.

The road had previously closed but has now re-opened.

The Serious Crash Unit attended and investigations are ongoing.
