"Tongariro River kayaking death"

A man has died following a kayaking incident on the Tongariro River today.

Emergency services responded to a report of a person missing in the water around 10:20am today near the Waikato Falls.

An operation to rescue the man was launched however his body was located in the water around 12:40pm.

Efforts by Police and the LandSAR Ruapehu Alpine Rescue Organisation (RARO) to retrieve the body are underway.

There is no further information available at this time.
