Council appoints independent member to Risk and Assurance Committee

Sara Brownlie has been appointed to Upper Hutt City Council’s Risk and Assurance Committee as an independent member.

UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 17 MAY 2019—The extraordinary Council meeting on Thursday 18 April saw the appointment of the Risk and Assurance Committee’s first independent member; Sara Brownlie. The appointment of an independent director puts the committee in line with best practice guidelines.

Sara is a Fellow Member of CPA Australia and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors (IoD) in New Zealand and of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ). Sara has an extensive career working for the NZ public sector in senior financial management.

Sara Brownlie is also currently serving as a director at REANNZ (Research and Education Advanced Network of New Zealand: reannz.co.nz) and Catalyst.net Ltd (NZ owned and operated open source technology company: www.catalyst.net.nz). She has also been school trustee for Rongotai College (www.rongotai.school.nz) for a number of years.

Upper Hutt Mayor, Wayne Guppy is very pleased to have been able to appoint Ms Brownlie, “Ms Brownlie comes with the background and experience we need to ensure this committee is operating with a best practice model, optimising its service and transparency to our Upper Hutt community.”
