Gunman Still on the Loose |
||
by Selwyn Manning -
A gunman who shot an Armourguard security officer in a west Auckland robbery yesterday is still on the loose.
Police have been hunting the armed man and another who drove a getaway car since around midday yesterday when he shot the security officer in the upper leg during a struggle at Waitakere Plaza in Henderson.
The security guard was shot in the thigh after the armed man wrestled him for a bag of cash he had just picked up from Foodtown supermarket.
The security officer, John Kerapa Junior, underwent surgery and has now been released from Auckland Hospital.
West Auckland police have found the getaway car believed to have been used by a gunman.
Forensic scientists have been examining the stolen vehicle, which was found abandoned just behind Waitakere Plaza.
Police believe the attack is linked to several Armourguard hold-ups in the past month.
More than 20 eye
witnesses have made statements to the police. Police are
positive about finding the gunman as many witnesses was his
face before he put on a
mask.
