A knife wielding man shot by Police in
Greenhithe near Auckland is in a serious condition at North
Shore Hospital.
Police were called to a residential
address after receiving a complaint that a man was
threatening another with a knife.
On arrival police say
they found a woman in the front of a property bleeding from
facial wounds. A man was also found holding a baby with one
hand and a knife in the other.
Police say they negotiated
with the man. He put the baby down but then approached
police with the weapon. He failed to heed police requests
for him to put the weapon down. Police then shot him.
The
injured man was then taken to North Shore Hospital and is
now undergoing
surgery.

Gordon Campbell: On the Sony cyber attack
Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.
Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
