PM Refuses To Express Support For Police Boss - Prime Minister Jenny Shipley is refusing to express confidence in Police Commissioner Peter Doone, following the collapse of the INCIS computer contract. Commissioner Doone was instrumental in deciding to go with the IBM computer system. But over $100 million later the computer giant has pulled out with the system far from being complete. Police Association head Greg O’Connor predicts Commissioner Doone will be for the chop. And Mrs Shipley today ducked questions on whether she stands behind the commissioner.

Wall Street Shotout - A man has been killed in a lunchhour shootout with police on New York’s Wall Street. Pedestrians were ducking for cover from flying bullets and shattering glass. An employee in a bank noticed a customer as a suspect in an earlier robbery in the same branch. Officers responding to the call exchanged gunfire with the man who fled among a crowd of office workers on their lunchbreak. The suspect was eventually shot by police and has since died in hospital. One bystander was shot in the leg and wounded.
