Turkey’s Earthquake Toll Rises - The confirmed death toll in Turkey’s earthquake has passed 2000 with another 11,000 listed as injured. The earthquake which struck at 3am hit the densely populated north/western region severely damaging at least ten cities. American scientists measured it at 7.8 on the R-scale making it the earthquake-prone region’s most powerful quake ever. International aid is beginning to stream in.
Jury and Media Take a Break - The jury and media in the Scott Watson murder trial wont be in court today, as lawyers and the judge will be meeting in chambers. The day’s break interrupts evidence being given by a detective who is responsible for establishing which yachts were moored nearby Furneaux Lodge in the Marlborough Sounds when Ben Smart and Olivia Hope went missing last year.
Navigation Glitch On Its Way - Sailors and pilots
are being warned that a computer glitch may make them lose
their bearings this weekend. The glitch is similar to the so
called millennium bug, could affect satellite navigation
equipment. This Sunday around midday the system’s in-built
clock should roll over to zero an event which occurs every
20 years or
so.
