Commerce Chamber Head Slams Message of APEC Signs |
||
by Selwyn Manning
Auckland Chamber of Commerce’s Michael Barnett says APEC motorway signs are too confusing.
The signs are designed to warm Auckland motorists that delays and closures can be expected during the APEC leader’s summit.
The motorways will be closed to public traffic while motorcades of heads of state and other dignitaries are escorted and transported to Auckland’s central business district.
But Mr Barnett says the signs are intimidating and are sending the wrong message to Aucklanders.
He says
the signs are warning of chaos during APEC. This is
dismissive and defeatist. Every effort, Mr Barnett says,
should be made to keep Auckland as operable as possible
during the conference, not to create a public
panic.
