Trend Micro Supports Formation Of Warlab, An Independent Antivirus Research Center, Founded By Joe Wells

Cupertino, Calif., Feb. 22 Rnewswire-Asianet/ Trend Micro Inc.

(Nasdaq: TMIC) (Japan OTC: 4704), a leading provider of Internet virus protection, today announced that the company has allied with Joe Wells, who is forming a new public interest antivirus research organization, Warlab (Wells Antivirus Research Laboratory).

Although Warlab is a wholly owned subsidiary of Trend Micro it will maintain its independence and will provide its services to users of antivirus products as well as all antivirus vendors.

"Warlab differs from other antivirus labs that currently exist to maintain or develop antivirus products, respond to crises and provide product-centric information," said Joe Wells, president and founder, Warlab. "Instead, it will be a research organization dedicated to product-independent research, providing informational, educational public interest services, and real-time, accurate virus threat assessment." The lab plans to solicit and publish papers, articles and essays from antivirus experts throughout the industry.

"Partnering with Joe Wells simply makes sense; we share the common goal of helping users and the antivirus industry become more educated about viruses by providing credible and proactive antivirus information and services," said Eva Chen, Trend Micro CTO. "We believe Warlab will help establish a healthier antivirus environment for both the industry and end users."
