NEWCALL Acquires 'Rocket' Clients From Telstra

NEWCALL Acquires 'Rocket' Clients From Telstra Increasing Overall Customer Base By 10%

AUCKLAND, 29 February, 2000 - NEWCALL Communications Ltd today announced the recent purchase from Telstra NZ Ltd of part of the small to medium business (SMB) client base held within the 'Rocket' brand. Under the deal NEWCALL will acquire a significant number of new nationwide SMB customers boosting its overall client base by approximately 10%. NEWCALL retains the right to use the 'Rocket' name under license from Telstra.

"The 'Rocket' brand focuses on the small and medium size business sector which is precisely our target market, " explains NEWCALL's Managing Director Norman Nicholls. "We understand their need for practical and cost-effective solutions to survive in today's business climate. Bringing them on board as part of our core telecommunications business makes perfect sense."

The purchase of the large client base follows deals announced in January which saw NEWCALL take a 75% share of Auckland-based energy reseller Energy Options Limited (EOL), as well as exercise its option to purchase 100% of Internet service provider IproLink.

According to Nicholls, 'Rocket' customers are joining NEWCALL at a time of tremendous innovation and growth. "Through our strategic interests in EOL and IproLink, NEWCALL has become the only telephone company in New Zealand to offer single billing for power, telephony and Internet. This has become a highly attractive option for a number of our customers and we have experienced a significant surge in our energy reseller business since announcing the acquisition of EOL. Furthermore, we are now able to explore the opportunities of providing utility services at a very low cost to our customers."

"With the 'Rocket' acquisition our share of the SMB market continues to increase. The costs in selling complementary services are not high yet the market for this type of service is very large. The opportunities for us to grow are considerable."

"NEWCALL is committed to continually enhancing the value of our overall service through new and innovative offerings. We welcome 'Rocket' customers to NEWCALL."
