Ross Baker to head Infinity Group
News Release 17 July 2000
Ross Baker to head Infinity Group
Mr Ross Baker has been appointed Chief
Executive of New Zealand’s newest information technology
services business, Infinity Group Limited.
Infinity Group was formed in June following the acquisition of a number of established IT businesses including Trilogy Group, Madison Group and Quanta Systems. Based in Wellington, Infinity Group’s capabilities span engineering services, value-added reselling, software development, systems integration and e-Commerce to provide comprehensive IT business solutions for clients.
Mr Baker brings to the position of Chief Executive, management, marketing, strategic and business skills gleaned from over 25 years of experience in the telecommunications and distribution industries.
In his roles as New Zealand Post General Manager Business Development, General Manager Sales and Marketing and General Manager New Ventures, he oversaw the company’s focus change from a monopoly provider of services to a customer-focused business. He also established KiwiMail – a new company designed to maximise letter box usage, and the Browser – a new advertising medium for use by KiwiMail.
As Chief Executive of Infinity Group, Mr Baker is responsible for running the company’s small corporate head office that oversees the strategic direction and financial management of the company’s business units as well as integrating client solutions horizontally across the company’s engineering services and value-added reselling; software development and systems integration; and e-Business divisions.
“Ross has the skills and drive to ensure Infinity Group leads the way in providing customers with a seamless solution to their business requirements,” says Director Patsy Reddy.
By combining a number of established, profitable businesses with newer, higher growth companies, Infinity Group is able to harness the resulting operational and intellectual synergies to provide a single, seamless IT service.
“Financial management and access to capital are critical issues for many IT businesses and it is unlikely that the constituent businesses, as stand-alone entities, would have the same access to capital and financial systems as they do now within Infinity,” says Mr Baker.
“Infinity regards this aspect of the business as a distinct competitive advantage. This, together with its corporate culture of encouraging individual business units to grow through innovation and entrepreneurial management under the guidance of an experienced head office team, will be key to Infinity’s emerging success.”
Infinity Group is a private company, 56 per cent owned by Active Equities Limited, with the balance held by the directors, employees and former shareholders of Trilogy Group, Madison Group and Quanta Systems.
