Bells
Continental Smallgoods of Porirua makes the best sausage in
New Zealand. This is according to a select group of food
experts who tasted the six gold medal winners in this year’s
competition. The top sausage for 2001 was entered in the
beef category and after winning that category on Friday it
was judged the best sausage in the competition of almost 300
entries.
The six gold medalists for 2001 are:
Best beef sausage and overall winner : Bells Continental Smallgoods, Wellington
Best pork sausage: Turangi New World
Best saveloy: Cashmere Cuisine Christchurch
Best pre cooked: Foodstuffs Wellington
Best exotic: North Shore Bacon Producers, Auckland (Thai crab sausage)
Best traditionally flavoured: Heller Tasty Auckland (smoky cheese)
The details of other medal winners will be known on Wednesday.
The competition marks the end of National Sausage Week for 2001.
