WestpacTrust Launches Beyond Survival Seminar Programme
WestpacTrust is teaming up with internationally renowned business adviser, Steve LeFever to offer Beyond Survival, a seminar programme designed to equip business owners with practical management tools and proven financial concepts to measure and improve business performance. The seminars will ensure businesses are better prepared to manage their finances with confidence and success.
“Business survival today depends on one thing – becoming financially street wise – and unless owners realise this, they will become a statistic within 12 months,” said LeFever, Chairman of Seattle-based education firm, Business Resource Services Inc.
WestpacTrust General Manager Business and Agribusiness Julian Nalepa said that the success rate of New Zealand startups was 59 per cent after the first four years. With better financial knowledge and money management skills that figure could be even higher.
The two-day Beyond Survival seminars would provide participants with the knowledge and tools to assess their business’ financial performance and make informed decisions, said Mr Nalepa. The seminars will be targeted at business owners, CEOs and managers of middle market organizations and small and medium enterprises.
“The Beyond Survival seminars are designed to give people essential financial knowledge that can make the difference between struggling and succeeding. Our intent is not to teach people how to run a business but to highlight the common pitfalls and pass on proven, practical financial tools to measure and improve business performance.
“We want to ensure that participants
come out of the seminar with things that they can apply
straight away, so we have made it very hands-on.
They will be able to examine and learn from lot of real business examples and everyday situations and also share their own experiences.
“Many of the participants will be coming to the seminars with limited financial knowledge. We won’t be swamping them with jargon and heavy information – we will use clear and understandable terms to teach them about areas such as financial statement analysis, break even analysis, cash flow management and bank financing.
“Banks and accountants speak a different language that a lot of business owners don’t understand. We recognise that business owners need to make informed decisions based on sound understanding of their financial position and the implications of the advice they are given. Participants will certainly leave better equipped to manage their business, communicate with their accountant and understand where their bank manager is coming from,” said Mr Nalepa.
Westpac Bank in Australia has been running Beyond Survival seminars since 2000 and the programme has been very successful.
“The seminars have been heavily booked in Australia and the feedback received from participants has been tremendous,” said Mr Nalepa. “Many have said it is the best seminar they have ever been to, and some have suggested it should be compulsory for start-up businesses. We are confident Beyond Survival will be just as successful in New Zealand.”
Mr Nalepa said that the price of the two-day seminars has been kept to a minimum to ensure people from businesses where money is tight can still take part.
