NZBCSD Launches Its Zero Waste Guide & Government House Commits To Zero Waste

The NZBCSD today welcomed Dame Silvia Cartwright's announcement committing Government House to the Zero Waste journey.

We also launched our Industry Guide to Zero Waste which profiles the Zero Waste journey of 8 NZBCSD companies.

The Launch highlight was when Dame Silvia Cartwright, Hon Marion Hobbs, Stephen Tindall (NZBCSD Chair), James Marshall (MD, 3M NZ), Kim Ellis (MD, Waste Management) and Rob Fenwick (MD, Living Earth) sorted Government House's Waste.

NZBCSD RELEASES GUIDELINES ON THE "WHY" AND "HOW" FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT REPORTING

Our Sustainable Development Reporting (SDR) guide was successfully launched on 24 October. The Guide outlines the business case and guidelines for Sustainable Development Reporting (SDR).

The Guide draws on work from the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), and other leading international insights. The guide also summarises the experiences of 7 NZBCSD member companies who have already produced SDRs. These companies are: City Care Ltd, Hubbard Foods, Interface Agencies, Sanford, Urgent Couriers, Watercare Services, and The Warehouse. BP NZ is currently finalising their first NZ report and their experiences are also described.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT REPORTING IS NOW LAW IN FRANCE Sustainable development reporting has become law in France. All listed companies will be required to publish social and environmental information starting this year. Issues that must be reported on include environment, employees, the local community and international labour issues.

CANTERBURY SUSTAINABILITY EXPO - 15-16 FEBRUARY 2003

The Canterbury Sustainability Expo will be held on February 15th and 16th 2003 at the Canterbury Horticultural Hall in Christchurch. The Christchurch City Council and Environment Canterbury are the two major sponsors for the 2003 event.

The main focus is on Sustainable Development but this includes a vast array of exhibits and displays. These will include building and heating options, energy efficient appliances, insulation products, Government information/advice, new & emerging technologies, greywater, alternative transport and biodiesel, organics, permaculture, education as well as many other interesting facets.
