Skycity Catering Wins V8 International Contract

SKYCITY Auckland’s out-catering company, SKYCITY Catering, has won the contract for the Placemakers V8 International racing event to be held at Pukekohe Raceway 7-9 November 2003.

The Placemakers V8 International sees 32 teams of top New Zealand and Australian Ford and Holden drivers going head to head in front of around 80,000 spectators over the three-day period.

Representing the biggest catering contract to date for SKYCITY Catering, the event encompasses both public hospitality and corporate hosting for some 6,500 people a day.

SKYCITY Auckland’s Conference and Out-catering Manager Mike Horne says that SKYCITY Catering’s reputation and experience were key factors in winning the contract.

“As a division of SKYCITY Auckland Ltd, which features the largest single site food and beverage operation in the country, SKYCITY Catering specialises in major large scale events such as this,” says Mr Horne.

“Our reputation as an international level caterer is built on recent events such as Propecia Rally of New Zealand, Cirque du Soleil, the Millennium Cup super yacht event on Kawau Island, and SKYCITY Starlight Symphony - events that are synonymous with high quality grand scale catering.

“The V8 super-cars is one of the country’s largest outdoor sports event and as such presents a logistically challenging catering task due to location, lack of on site food and beverage facilities and the sheer number of people to be catered for over the three days”, he said

To meet the event’s catering requirements, SKYCITY Catering will need to boost its team and will be bringing in talent from across the service industry to assist in the wide range of hospitality roles from cashiers, waiting staff to corporate hosts and chefs.

“Over the coming weeks we will be recruiting professional enthusiastic and committed people interested in being part of this exciting event,” said Mr Horne.
