The New Zealand Meat and Fibre Producers' (NZMFP) Conference and Annual General Meeting will be held from 31 March - 1 April at the Sudima Hotel Grand Chancellor, Christchurch.

An industry group of Federated Farmers of New Zealand, NZMFP represents the interests of around 9,000 sheep and beef producers.

National Party Agriculture spokesperson David Carter will give the opening address. Other speakers include Tony St. Clair, Chief Executive of Federated Farmers, Professor Jacqueline Rowarth, Director of Research at UNITEC, Guy Flora, President of the American Sheep Industry Association, Ian Feldtmann, President, of the Sheepmeat Council of Australia and Peter Orwick, Executive Director of the American Sheep Industry Association. Jeff Grant, Chair of Meat New Zealand and Mike Petersen, Chair of SheepCo will also give a joint address.

The NZMFP conference is supported by Wrightson, FMG, Ravensdown Fertiliser Co operative, The National Bank of New Zealand, Telecom New Zealand, FarmSafe and Rural Post.

Sky City : Auckland Convention Centre Cost Jumps By A Fifth

SkyCity Entertainment Group, the casino and hotel operator, is in talks with the government on how to fund the increased cost of as much as $130 million to build an international convention centre in downtown Auckland, with further gambling concessions ruled out.
