WTO Agreement an Outstanding Achievement !

WTO Agreement an Outstanding Achievement !

The World Trade Organisation's General Council agreement to a work programme is an outstanding achievement said TLN Executive Director, Suse Reynolds.

"The agreement is great news for global livelihoods.

"While there is still a tremendous amount of work to be done, if the momentum reflected in the language of this agreement can be maintained there is every chance the Doha round will turn out to be one of the most ambitious and far reaching since the inception of the WTO over fifty years ago," said Reynolds.

Reynolds said there were two other strong messages this agreement delivered.

"To the WTO's nay sayers - the WTO does work; every one of its 147 members sees benefits in this series of agreements.

"To government supported farmers in the Northern Hemisphere - start preparing for change; your protected markets now have a limited lifespan."
