Transport Industry advocate advises Transit to ignore Regional Land Transports Committee and get on with the job as promised.

ARC’s Regional Land Transports Committees decision to adopt a roading package that delays the completion of SH20 Western Ring Route beyond 2016 demonstrates how far removed this group is from the real Auckland .

“This committee needs to get its head out of the sand and do the job they were appointed to do, provide some leadership in resolving the mess that is the Auckland Transport corridor system” says National Road Carriers Executive Director Bruce Reid.

Transport Operators have had a guts full of broken promises and a lack of commercial appreciation by those delegated the task of sorting out Auckland Road Infrastructure.

RLTC has somehow managed to fly in the face of public opinion, commercial realities and common sense by excluding the Avondale link to the Northwestern from its roading package.

“At the last briefing we attended, Transit was committed to having the link sorted before 2016. For the RLTC to ignore this and the regions road users repeated calls for action shows an arrogant disregard for Auckland’s future” says Reid.

“The message National Road Carriers Members to Transit is clear, ignore the RLTC and get on with the link as planned with urgency.”

The majority of these running businesses transporting freight by road. 95% of the Members of National Road Carriers operate with 5 vehicles or less. 80% of the Members of National Road Carriers are single vehicle operators. The Association is actively involved with providing advocacy on behalf of Members, with the goal to improving the life of those who choose to earn a living with a vehicle.

National Road Carriers represents Members on local issues and Nationally through membership to the Road Transport Forum.

National Road Carriers Members ability to earn a living is at risk because of the congested roads of Auckland.
