Now your phone can name a song just by listening to it …..

You’re in a club, sitting in a movie theater, riding in a car or watching television, and you hear a tune that you love but cannot identify.

Now you can know the name of any music track anywhere in NZ, simply by using your Telecom or Boost Mobile phone.

This service will give 027 and 025 customers with a text capable mobile the ability to identify most songs or music tracks playing in their immediate area using their mobile phone. Note that Song ID will not work if your mobile has number withhold enabled.

The customer dials a special Song ID phone number *7664 (SONG) and then holds the mobile phone in the direction of the music source, be it a sound system in a club, a television commercial or radio DJ, for a period of 30 seconds. Song ID will automatically terminate the call after 30 seconds.

The service will then match the music sample against a vast database of tracks. A return text message is sent back to the caller usually within just 1-2 minutes containing the track name, artist and even which remix it is. Each successful tag costs just $0.99. If a song is not successfully tagged there is no cost.

The Song ID database contains over 2.6 million tracks – updated daily – and includes most formats and genres except live and classical music. The database is updated daily and will include a comprehensive list of back catalogue and new NZ music.

Song ID can be used anywhere in New Zealand: at home, in the car, at the pub or anywhere the music is loud enough and there is mobile reception. It doesn't matter what source the music is coming from - radio, CD, internet, TV - as long as the music is pre-recorded, that is, the music is not being played live.

So dial *7664 (*SONG), hold your Telecom or Boost mobile up to a sound system, and the answer to which track you are listening to and who is singing it will soon be with you.
