Whakatane Family Score An All Blacks Ford Falcon Xr6

The Kara family from Whakatane are winging their way to Auckland today to pick up a Ford Falcon XR6, previously driven by Daniel Carter, before heading to the All Blacks v Lions Test at Eden Park on Saturday night.

Michael and Rosey Kara won the Ford Falcon XR6 after entering Telecom Mobile’s Unite for Victory “Crack the Code” competition and also receive flights, accommodation and tickets for four people to attend the final Test as part of their prize package. The competition was open to people who bought a new Telecom 027 mobile phone on specific plans during the DHL NZ Lions Series in June.

Michael says he bought the phone from a Telecom store in Whakatane as a replacement for one which his wife accidentally destroyed.

“We’d been visiting family in Taupo and were leaving to drive home when my wife picked up my hat to wave goodbye out the window. The problem was that I’d put my mobile phone in the hat for safe-keeping and it ended up shattering in pieces on the road.

“I’d been without a mobile phone for a couple of months and happened to be paying my phone bill when I saw Telecom was running a competition and I decided to get a new mobile phone.”

Michael says he can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the new car, although there may need to be a family conference about a driver’s roster.

“I’ve always been an All Blacks fan and Daniel Carter is my wife and daughter’s favourite player so the car’s going to a good home.

“We’ve never had a car this new before and recently replaced our previous car of 15 years with another used car, but everyone is lining up to drive the XR6.

“The good news is that my wife and I both work at Whakatane Intermediate so that should make it a bit easier to share the driving,” he said.

Daniel Carter, Anton Oliver and Aaron Mauger will be on hand to present the Karas with their new XR6 when they collect it in Auckland today.

As well as sponsoring the All Blacks, Telecom is involved with each of New Zealand’s Rebel Sports Super 12 franchises, with Air New Zealand NPC teams, club rugby and the AXA International Sevens tournament in Wellington.
