ECOsystems & McDonald’s recognised in Awards

ECOsystems and McDonald’s recognised in EECA EnergyWise Awards

ECOsystems Ltd and McDonald’s Restaurants (NZ) Ltd were recognised in the recently announced 2006 EECA EnergyWise Awards.

Organised by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA), these prestigious awards celebrate achievements in smart energy choices – from both environmental and financial perspectives.

ECOsystems Ltd won the Genesis Energy Commercial/Services for its work with McDonald’s Restaurants (NZ) Ltd at the company’s Auckland head office.

The energy efficiency upgrade at McDonald’s head office was completed between January and March 2004, and shows how even modern commercial office buildings can reduce energy consumption by more than 20%.

“Our focus is on the practical installation of energy efficient measures with our clients,” says Scott Martin, Director –Technical and Integration, ECOsystems Ltd. “ECOsystems and McDonald’s worked together to on this project, which has led to lighting, heating and cooling all being easily controlled from a web browser.”

These changes have seen the company save more than 23% in kWh, surpassing the national energy efficiency and conservation strategy target of 20%.

“The energy audit ECOsystems undertook on McDonald’s behalf has seen significant energy and cost savings,”says Kevin de Jong, National Development Manager, McDonald’s Restaurants (NZ) Ltd. “This has enabled us to minimise energy use and reduce environmental impact, whilst still maximising comfort and safety.

Award entries were judged on the benefits of the project (energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy and greenhouse has reductions), cost effectiveness, innovation, and sustainability (the continuation of the project and the ability for it to be replicated by other businesses).
