Creative Excellence Honoured at 26th AXIS Awards

Advertising Creative Excellence Honoured at
26th AXIS Awards

ColensoBBDO’s ‘Let’s Play Poker’ campaign for SKYCITY Casino Auckland has won top honours in this year’s CAANZ AXIS Awards.

The annual AXIS Awards recognise excellence in communications creativity.

The mixed media ‘Let’s Play Poker’ campaign won the Chairman’s Best in Show Award and was described by the Chairman of Judges, Justin Tindall of DDB London as simple and brilliant.

He said it had no individual print or TV ad or website stunt. It was simply a great advertising thought which used media to amplify the idea, not to be the idea.

‘Let’s Play Poker’ also won a Gold in the Mixed Media Campaign category.

Saatchi and Saatchi’s ‘Telecom Rubbish Film Festival’ campaign won the inaugural Grande AXIS ‘X-Award’ for interactive work and DDB took out the Grande AXIS Direct Award for its campaign for Durex – entitled ‘Come Together’.

ColensoBBDO took out another Grande AXIS Award – this time Grande AXIS Electronic for its ‘Undies’ campaign for Tip Top.

The Grande AXIS Print Award went to TBWA\Whybin for its ‘Be the Ball’ campaign for Adidas.

The People’s Choice award this year went to Saatchi & Saatchi NZ for its ‘Bulls hit’ advertisement for Toyota and Advertiser of the Year was won by the Monaco Corporation.

Production Company of the Year was won by The Sweet Shop and the Industry Excellence Award was won by Chris Martin, Creative Director of Clemenger BBDO.

The judging panel was led by Chairman Justin Tindall, Creative Director of DDB in London with Andrew Ostrom of Leo Burnett in Sydney and a panel of 40 experts from the local creative industry.

The panel judged 1137 entries – up from 985 in 2005 and 868 in 2004.
