Hotel gets serious about business development

The newly created position of Business Development Manager at Crowne Plaza Queenstown is set to enhance the hotel’s growing profile, popularity and reputation.

Julie Jolley has been appointed to the new business development role and is responsible for strategically marketing the hotel, which was re-branded in January 2006.

Formerly a marketer for Queenstown Convention Bureau, Julie says she’s relishing the job of building on Crowne Plaza Queenstown’s already strong brand.

“I’m delighted to be joining a lively team and to be working for an establishment which is fast becoming one of Queenstown’s most iconic,” said Jolley.

“We’re a few months away from celebrating our first birthday and it’s the ideal time to be stepping up awareness of the unrivalled visitor experience and atmosphere we offer.”

Brett Wilson, hotel General Manager, said he’s excited to welcome Julie on board and is confident she’ll quickly become an asset to the company.

“I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to appoint someone of Julie’s caliber to this position. She has a wealth of valuable experience that will be vital in helping to grow the reputation of Crowne Plaza Queenstown in what is an expanding and competitive market,” said Wilson.

“The team has worked very hard since we opened to establish a dynamic profile and client base for the hotel. This is always a challenge when taking over an existing hospitality premise, as we’ve done in Queenstown,” said Wilson.

“Julie has the drive and an impressive network of contacts to grow and shape this role.”

Originally from the UK, Julie is no stranger to Queenstown. She has lived in the town for over five years and has experience in the domestic and international conference and incentive (C&I) market and hospitality industry.

Julie has traveled extensively, gaining international hospitality and tourism experience from various positions in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Julie’s strong professional grounding is enhanced with a National Diploma in Business and Finance.

Crowne Plaza is located on Beach Street, opposite Steamer Wharf, and enjoys spectacular views over Lake Wakatipu and the mountains, providing a dramatic setting for The Place to Meet in Queenstown.
