Housing Consent Numbers Down, Value Up

In November 2006, consents were issued for 2,232 new housing units, Statistics New Zealand said today.

Compared with November 2005, the number of new housing units is 3 percent lower, but the value is 6percent higher.
There were 179 apartment units authorised in November 2006, compared with 373 in October and 493 in September. Apartment numbers are volatile and can vary considerably from month to month.

For all residential buildings, the value of consents issued in November 2006 was $667 million, 4 percent higher than in the previous November.

For non-residential buildings, the value of consents issued in November 2006 was $376 million, 17 percent lower than in November 2005. Hostels and boarding houses had the largest decrease, while offices and administration buildings had the largest increase.
