Adjustment to Monthly Phone Charges

Adjustment to Monthly Phone Charges

15 January 2007

Telecom’s monthly line rental charges for a range of plans will increase by between $1.00 and $1.85 from March.

Telecom General Manager Consumer Marketing Kevin Bowler said the increase to Telecom’s line rental charges reflected unavoidable cost increases across many areas of the business.

“We are committed to reducing the actual price of calling so customers continue to get better value for money,” Mr Bowler said.

“We’re delivering this through calling plans such as Freedom which offers great value for calling between Telecom home and Telecom 027 mobile phones – and which will be extended to calling between home phones this year.

“The cost of calling with Telecom continues to come down. National toll calls are now on average 16% cheaper than they were three years ago and international calling is 28% cheaper.”

Mr Bowler said the cost of calling the 018 directory service from a mobile phone would increase to 75 cents from March. It would be the first price increase in nearly 10 years. He said that the cost of 018 calls from fixed lines would stay at 50 cents.

The monthly rentals affected and the price increases that apply are as follows:
