Mitsubishi to launch biofuel vehicle
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has developed a Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) to be launched in Brazil this year.
Brazil is the world's leading consumer of biofuel vehicles, where sales comprise some 80% of the auto market.
The FFV runs on gasoline, ethanol (produced from organic matter), or a mixture of the two. It has been developed in parallel with Mitsubishi's electric vehicle technology and next generation, high-efficiency diesel engines, as part of their Environmental Technology Strategy.
The FFV system delivers the optimal fuel mixture to the engine by monitoring the concentration of oxygen in the exhaust. This delivers fuel consumption comparable to regular gasoline vehicles, but with significantly cleaner emissions.
A US launch is planned for 2009.
