Telecom Supporting ‘Made from NZ’
Telecom is helping to bring together a celebration of all things ‘Made from NZ’ this Waitangi day, by contributing to the building of a 100ft silver fern on Santa Monica beach.
The Made from New Zealand campaign, taking place in the Year of the Exporter, is aimed at raising the international profile of Kiwi exporters and as part of the project, artist Mike Mizrahi will be building a 100m long silver fern sand sculpture on Santa Monica Beach to celebrate New Zealand thinking, creativity and products.
Mike had built an earlier version on Bethells Beach in 2001, with the construction turned into a commercial that was screened during the 2002 and 2004 Oscars.
This time, the fern will be rebuilt on Santa Monica Beach in Los Angeles on Waitangi Day. Supported by a crew of predominantly ex-pat New Zealanders living in Los Angeles, including members of the Pasadena based Telecom NZ International office.
To help raise awareness of the project Telecom will be helping to promote the Made from New Zealand website and will include images and coverage of the construction on www.xtramsn.co.nz following the event.
Telecom General Manager of Business Solutions Greg McAlister is delighted to be helping shine the spotlight on fellow kiwi exporters in an international arena.
“Telecom is getting behind the Made from New Zealand project, a platform for connecting and promoting New Zealand businesses and people.”
To help fund the project, three t-shirts designs have been created, including one designed by iconic Kiwi clothing brand Huffer.
There are only 10,517 of these t-shirts available – representing the number of kilometres between Bethells Beach and Santa Monica.
Telecom has 50 of these t-shirts to give away on XtraMSN for viewers of the coverage of the Waitangi day event.
