Welcome to the February 1 edition of the BNZ Weekly Overview.
This week we are running our first confidence survey of the year. If time permits please click on the URL below and let us know whether you feel the economy will get better or worse over the coming year. More importantly let us know how conditions are looking in your particular industry. Results will be sent out next week.

This week we have seen data released showing improving imports of capital equipment, some easing in construction consents which we believe will reverse soon, continued firm growth in lending, and a rise in consumer confidence. None of the indicators have delivered the easing in the domestic economy and housing market the RB are seeking so the chances remain strong of a rate rise come March 8.
Exporters received some good news with the NZD easing over a cent for the week.
Best regards
