Statement About Charlie Pedersen

Federated Farmers of New Zealand President Charlie Pedersen has been admitted to Palmerston North hospital.

Charlie, 50, was admitted on Saturday evening after competing in a celebrity fence-building competition at the Central Districts Field Days.

He is under observation in the hospital’s coronary care unit for a further two or three days. He is fully conscious and mobile and expects to make a quick recovery from this setback.

“The staff at Palmerston Hospital are great except that they won’t let me have my cell phones,” Charlie said.

The Federation has robust procedures in place in the event of an absence of a President. Vice President Don Nicolson and other board members will be filling in for Charlie until he is back on deck.

His colleagues wish him a speedy recovery.

The Federation will make no further comment until there is more to report.
