Kiwis Go One Step Further to Welcome Aussies to New Zealand


The New Zealand tourism industry has gone one step further in making Australians feel welcome in New Zealand

A cheeky television advertisement telling Australians we’ve turned New Zealand into their national colours of green and gold launched in Australia last night.

Today staff in many of New Zealand’s i-site information centres have tossed aside their black and silver to wear green and gold colours for the duration of the campaign.

The ‘Green and Gold’ television and prints advertisements are an extension of Tourism New Zealand’s current ’What’s On’ campaign launched in August 2006. The Green and Gold advertisements showcase spectacular imagery and the vibrant green and gold colours that blanket the country during the Autumn months.

Tourism New Zealand Chief Executive George Hickton says the campaign sets about showcasing the beauty of the country in autumn and highlights the long established relationship between New Zealand and Australia.

“The green and gold autumn leaves of New Zealand are a symbol of the uniqueness of the relationship between Kiwis and Aussies. We hope that by incorporating this patriotic element into our latest campaign we can truly show Australians that they are a welcomed and an important part of our tourism industry.”

The campaign also details how Autumn is an active time for events in New Zealand with cultural, musical and sporting events taking place such as the Taranaki Wine and Food Festival, The Montana National Jazz Festival and the Oyster Bay Bluff Oyster and Southland Seafood Festival.

Mr Hickton says the campaign was designed to get Australians to think of coming to New Zealand many times, including outside the peak season of summer.

So far the campaign has been successful with a record 900,000 Australians visiting New Zealand last year.
