Wear your poppy and take time to remember on ANZAC Day

From Friday 20 April, New Zealanders can get their commemorative poppies from any ANZ branch. All donations will go towards the New Zealand Returned & Services Association’s annual Poppy Day Appeal.

Poppies will be available from Friday 20 – Tuesday 24 April, and ANZ staff-members will be using their volunteer leave to help RSA members and volunteers with the Appeal. The proceeds from the Poppy Day Appeal are used by the RSA to provide welfare services to the veterans and ex-service community.

And in a special Auckland and Wellington tribute, ANZ is assisting the RSA with the staging of a free night-time light display of cascading poppies projected onto the Auckland War Memorial Museum (Wed 18, Thurs 19 April) and Wellington’s Parliament Buildings (Tues 17, Wed 18, Thurs 19 April). The displays can be seen from 7pm to midnight.

New Zealanders are also encouraged to watch the award-winning, ANZ sponsored ANZAC Day all-day broadcast on Maori Television, entitled “Na Ratou, Mo Tatou: Let’s Honour Them Together”. The coverage, which with ANZ’s assistance is being aired commercial free, will begin at 5.30am before crossing live to the Dawn Service in Rotorua at 6am.

ANZAC day is a special day for New Zealanders and Australians says Wayne Besant, Managing Director – ANZ Retail.

“This is a time for people of all ages to remember friends, family and whanau who gave their lives in two World Wars, and in particular those who fell at Gallipoli. Our staff are tremendously proud of ANZ’s role in these ANZAC Day commemorative events."
