‘Si & Gary’ come to Nelson

Media Release

‘Si & Gary’ come to Nelson

Nelson breakfast radio is to get a slice of celebrity with a distinctly local feel from later this month.

Phillipa Pattison, Radio Works Station Manager announced today that Nelson’s 93 More FM would be broadcasting the More FM Christchurch breakfast show featuring
Simon Barnett and Gary McCormick from June 25.

Ms Pattison said the opportunity opened up when co-host former breakfast co-host Breffni Hellyer resigned.

“We wanted to give our listeners the most entertaining breakfast show we possibly could and after we had checked out the technical possibilities and the potential to inject Nelson content into Si and Gary’s show it simply became a no brainer,” she said. “We have just hired a journalist to do our local news and we will have local promotions, community information, and commercials.”

The ‘Si and Gary in the morning’ show has won many awards and Ms Pattison said she is sure it will be as popular in Nelson as it is in Christchurch.

“Si and Gary are both well known in Nelson, Simon’s early radio and TV careers began here, he has holidayed here for years and loves this region while Gary has spent plenty of time here too,” she said. “And, of course, they will be spending a lot more time In Nelson now for special events and occasions.”

Long serving breakfast announcer Alan Columbus is to become Drive (2pm-7pm) Announcer and Operations Manager.

“This is an excellent career move for Alan who has himself won four NZ Radio Awards,” Ms Pattison said. “ We are really pleased we can continue to utilise his vast experience and unique skill set here in Nelson.”

Ms Pattison said with the award winning Katrina Smith in 10am–2pm and Ben Wilson and Tim Morice in weekends More FM would continue to deliver the strongest local team in Nelson.
