Crew Announced for Great Speight's Beer Delivery

After almost a 10 week search Speight's has finally decided on the crew to join James Livingston on the Great Speight's Beer Delivery. The crew will journey for 70 days by sea to deliver a Speight’s Ale House to London via Samoa, Panama, the Bahamas and New York.

JAMES LIVINGSTON, 26, project manager of Wellington and our first crew member, will be joined by:

LINDSAY GILBERT, 32, farmer from Ashburton

JAMIE MUNRO, 29, works for the IRD in Dunedin

MARK WILSON, 26, marketer from Southland

TIM CLEAVER, 26, volleyball pro and teacher from New Plymouth

Three non-travelling reserves have also been chosen in case anything happens to the crew. They are Donna Lindsey of Christchurch, Andrew Mulligan of Auckland, and Steve Nichol of Middlemarch, Central Otago.

"It was tough choosing the final crew," says Speight's Otago/Southland Sales Manager Stu McIntosh,"but the guys we've selected represent the Speight's and southern values - they're loyal, humble, generous and practical. We believe they'll be great ambassadors for New Zealand as they travel the world on this first-of-its-kind adventure," he says.

New Zealand's biggest beer brand, Speight's, announced on 16 April that it would be taking a Speight's Ale House to London to quench the thirst of all the ex-pats that write to them complaining about poor English beer.

The crew are departing Dunedin on the afternoon of 25 July and all New Zealanders are invited to attend. The ship is scheduled to arrive in London in early October.

JAMIE MUNRO
What’s your marital status?
Engaged and getting married in a couple of weeks. My fiancée is the perfect woman agreeing to let me take this trip when we’ll only have been married for 15 days!

What’s your greatest accomplishment?
I am the almost proud owner of an article of Gavin Hensons wardrobe, stolen from him at The Church in London. The theft was motivated minutes earlier by the idiot bagging Christian Cullen and barking that the Lions were gonna give the AB's a hiding on their upcoming tour... that worked out for him aye?

What three non-essential items will you be taking with you?
Loads of burger rings (for the boys in London), offal and a rifle to shoot whatever sea creatures might pop theirs head up.

Tell us about your mate in the UK…
His name’s Chris Jones and he sports my initials on his ass... a prize tattoo for losing to me in a lemon meringue pie eating comp.

MARK WILSON
What’s your Southern Connection?
Born in Invers love the STAGS!! Went to Otago University for 5 years and played social rugby for the mighty Satanic Verses the oldest and most pure Speight’s rugby team in the history of Dunedin social rugby.

What 3 adjectives best describe you?
Future Invercargill Mayor

What skills will you bring to the boat?
Generous supplies of venison, blue cod and wild pork plus great cullinary skills to prepare it. Some good stories.

Why do you want to go on this trip?
A general desire to have a great time, relive some scarfie stories over a quiet Speight’s, and of course promote the world’s best beer!

What will be difficult about being on board?
No hunting, no hot Danish tourists and missing the Stags games.

What three non-essential items will you be bringing with you?
Stags Flag, Camera, DVD of Old School

TIM CLEAVER
What's your greatest accomplishment?
Having the skinniest pins in NZ, and that's not just guys, that everyone over the age of 12.

What's your Southern Connection?
4 years at varsity in Dunedin and played for the Otago Uni Vikings Volleyball team while I was down there.

What will be difficult about being on board?
It really depends on the boat. If the waves are bigger than the boat then that will be a problem. Otherwise, judging by pirates, getting poked in the eye is common.

What three non-essential items will you be taking with you?
1. Golf Clubs, there is nothing quite like smashing golf balls off into the distance. 2. Beach Volleyball Set, if we're stopping in Samoa and the Bahamas then it would be rude not to spark up a few game of volley on the beach. 3. A deck of cards.
