Kiwi Supernannies’ in high demand

06/08/2007: For immediate release

Kiwi Supernannies’ in high demand

The super nanny phenomenon is on the rise in Britain and is luring talented Kiwi’s more than ever.

A recent British survey found that up to 48% of British households hire outside help in the form of nannies, carers, cleaners and other domestic staff.*

Parents with demanding jobs are expecting more and more from this help- including multi talented nannies who have the skills to become a surrogate parent, music and language teacher, personal PA, cook and household manager. With such a dynamic role the vital skill for these nannies is time management and organisation. On any one day you are expected to get maintain full care of the children, run the household and complete any extra tasks needed which can vary from buying new school shoes or uniforms to planning and booking overseas travel.

All of this leads to a fantastic market for the well versed nanny, who can command salaries upwards of £30,000 per year (approx $75,000NZ), and enjoy perks such as cars, gym memberships, mobile phones, clothing allowance and yearly travel all as part of the job.

Lisa Rutledge, spokesperson for KiwiOz Nannies, says they are seeing an increase in qualified candidates wanting to take advantage of the opportunities on offer. ‘Many of our nannies now have tertiary qualifications, offering a wealth of both practical and educational experience to parents who are finding they have less time to teach their children essential life skills.’

New Zealand teacher Melanie Paterson went to London six years ago and has recently decided to take up nannying. ‘I knew I wanted to continue to work with children once I had finished teaching and nannying was the ideal path to take. With some nannying jobs you not only get to work with wonderful families and children but you also get to see the world as well. Your days can be long and demanding, especially working with younger children, but once you have left work, you have left it. You don't have to go home and continue working to meet deadlines etc. as you do in so many other professions.’
