Dignified alternative to Boobs On Bikes to be hosted

While Queen Street is hosting its Boobs On Bikes parade tomorrow lunchtime, Newmarket retailers will be actively wooing Auckland’s best dressed women to its shopping district, with a winning prize package worth over $3,000 up for grabs.

“As Queen Street displays half naked women perched on motorbikes, Newmarket will be celebrating Auckland’s most stylish contemporary women,” says competition organiser Cameron Brewer, general manager of the Newmarket Business Association.

“The gap between the shopping strips of Queen Street and Broadway has never been wider. Queen Street has the strip but Newmarket has the shopping and the style.”

The competition to determine “Auckland’s most fashionable female shopper” will take place outside Smith and Caughey’s on Broadway from 12.30pm tomorrow – Wednesday 22 August, and will be judged by some of Newmarket’s top fashion retailers.

Those wanting to enter just need to turn up to the inaugural competition dubbed the ‘Best Dressed On Broadway’.

“We encourage those Aucklanders not interested in the Boobs On Bikes parade to join us instead. Have a nice lunch in Newmarket and check out our much more dignified parade. Whether you’re a participant or an onlooker, it’s going to be a lot of fun for the whole family, with an amazing prize package up for grabs.”

“Newmarket is the Fashion Capital of New Zealand and Auckland’s premier retailing district. We would never host a Boobs On Bikes parade. It’s just not where we would want to position ourselves in the marketplace.”

“It’s important to show the rest of the country that style, dignity, and good taste are still alive and well in Auckland. Our event is about celebrating just that,” says Cameron Brewer.

Newmarket retailers that have sponsored prizes include; European Fashion Studio, Lucie Boshier, L'Occitane En Provence, Sarah Priddy Nails, Illusions Beauty Specialist, Fuschia, Parallel Direct, Dymocks Newmarket, 3Wisemen, Westfield 277 Newmarket, Isis Spa, Streetwise Body Piercing & Tattoo, Isabel Harris Limited, Techbooks, Zarbo, Mark Beckett Diamonds, and Regal Drycleaners.
